The “Arbor Jockey”

Isaac Nodland, aka, Arbor Jockey, would like to hear from you! He would be happy to answer any questions you may have about your trees. The Arbor Jockey page also allows readers to help each other by posting solutions to problems they have overcome. You may have an interesting story to tell about your trees, or you may simply have some interesting trees! Maybe you had a close call while up a tree or something funny or embarrassing has happened to you involving a tree. If so, we'd like to hear about it!

Arbor Jockey attended Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) for motorcycle and marine mechanics. His attraction to mechanics was replaced by a love of the imposing and awe-inspiring, giant redwoods of Northern California. Thus Isaac Nodland began to pursue what he discovered was a true passion; Climbing impossibly tall trees! Arboriculture seemed the logical discipline for Isaac to study so that he could get paid for what he loved to do; climb to the highest heights of the tallest trees.

Arbor Jockey's rigorous training began in 2000 with mentors and supervisors in Forestry, Logging, Lumber, Horticulture, and Climbing (including Rescue and Hazardous). He received classes and instruction in all areas of tree care, including hazardous removals and special certification in the removal of trees/limbs that impact power and utility lines.

Returning to his home in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, Isaac found the Hao, Saman, and Banyon that he remembered from his younger days. Many of them needed pruning... Arbor Jockey felt up to the challenge!

Isaac Nodland does not spend much time bragging about himself or his talents, that’s for sure! I met him when he came to take care of the palms and trees at our home in Keauhou about five years ago, and we have been friends ever since. It was a couple of years before I discovered that Isaac possesses an amazing talent. Visiting my daughter one day, I happened to walk out of her back door just as Isaac, high up within the huge banyon he was roped to, swung through the air from one branch to another. I watched him for quite a while that day and found it surprising that I thought of him as a sort of aerial artist up there. I also liked the way he had total control over where he landed the cut branches.

I had four Banyons and three pine trees at my home that needed to be cut down. There was no way that a large truck or crane would be able to get into my yard. I was referred to Isaac Nodland of Hawaii Arborist, and after a short look around, Isaac accepted my job.
Isaac made short work of these seven trees which was not a small thing. I was worried that maybe the house would be hit by a branch or something, but I didn’t have to worry about anything. One of the Banyans was 70 feet tall! Issac was so precise when he dropped those branches to the ground. That was impressive. I would only use Isaac for my trees now, and I would tell anyone that he is a great arborist with fair prices. You would be lucky to get him.
