About Hawaii Arborist

Hawaii Arborist

Serving the Big Island of Hawaii is Climbing Arborist, Isaac Nodland, owner-operator of Hawaii Arborist. A seasoned veteran with 17 years of experience, Isaac is a certified Climbing Arborist as well as a certified Production Arborist, and can offer his customers expert, extensive and experienced knowledge in all areas of tree care. He has had the good fortune of mentoring with several of the most talented and renowned Master Arborists in the pacific northwest. Masters of their craft, imbued with the kind of knowledge and experience that can be gained only painstakingly through their many years in the profession. This hands-on experience in America's northwest logging industry, combined with Isaac's formal education and earned certifications qualify Isaac to specialize in pruning the Big Island's most massive trees via climbing. In fact, Isaac displayed such a natural climbing ability among his colleagues, that he soon earned the well-deserved nickname of "Arbor Jockey." Nodland says this alias was given to him by the South American loggers who had immigrated to the continental north-west. He admitted to cleaning the name up a bit so it could be mentioned in polite society! Isaac's friends can't help but notice his affinity for trees both great and small. "Isaac can only be found climbing up into a tree or climbing out of one" quips one longtime friend and work associate!

Isaac can prune trees in areas inaccessible to a large truck with basket or crane, and reach those locations where it would not be feasible to employ such equipment. Although he favors the more organic, natural, climbing approach to tree care, Isaac is no stranger to heavy equipment and cranes. Sought after for his expertise in crane work, he has been contracted to work out of the state to help in the clean-up efforts after some of America's most significant natural disasters.

The Arbor Jockey wages a constant battle against invasive species such as Albezia or African tulip that crop up all over the Hawaiian islands, particularly the Big Island of Hawaii. Or so it seems to Isaac! His customers usually have one, two or more of these pests on their property and are astonished at how quickly these invaders can become overgrown. It is surprising, right? So it's no surprise to Isaac that people are surprised when they realize they waited a little too long to remove them!

On the flip side, Hawaii Arborist cares for many of Hawaii's indigenous species, rare or notable trees, and impressive national champion trees. Hawaii Arborist has pruned many of the giant Banyon and Hao trees throughout Kailua Town. The Banyon next to the old "Oceanview Inn," and "King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel." The National Champion Hao trees at "Hulihe'e Palace" and the impressive Hao at "Herb Kane's Ranch" are pruned by Hawaii Arborist. Interestingly, there are only two palaces in the United States; both located in the state of Hawaii. Our own "Hulihe'e Palace" here in Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island and "Iolani Palace" on the island of Oahu.

Large equipment can be quite damaging to the customer's existing landscaping. Isaac's climbing approach to removals and canopy care is less invasive to the surrounding growth and infrastructure. Reducing instances of unintended damage is of prime importance to Hawaii Arborist. In fact, we mention this in our pledge to satisfy our customers. Customer satisfaction is a mainstay of our company policy. Offering this pledge is a way of letting you know the importance we place on our customer service and how much we value and appreciate your business.

Hawaii Arborist provides tree care from canopy to root and offers you a one-time service or a recurring Maintenance plan tailored to your needs. We specialize in residential tree care, and we are available for commercial accounts. Whether you have a small tree pruning, or a sizeable tree removal, we would like to have your business! Our Big Island of Hawaii wide services include tree pruning, relocation, removals; including hazardous removals, thinning and monitoring and maintaining the health of your trees through our "Tree Health Care Plan". Trees growing in proximity to power and phone lines present more risk requiring the arborist to obtain additional certification to prune them. This certification allows Kailua-Kona Hawaii Arborist to prune/remove trees that are in contact with utility lines or within a minimum distance. Isaac of Hawaii Arborist is certified to work with trees impacting the Big Island's utility and power lines.
